Special Education

The special education programs are structured to address the goals and objectives in each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), and are designed to provide students with disabilities opportunities to complete the necessary requirements to obtain a high school diploma.

Within the high school setting, the continuum of options offered to students with disabilities includes general education classes, resource programs and special class programs. In most cases, the courses provide a structure that parallels the regular high school program, but is flexible enough to accommodate the instructional needs of the students’ Individualized Education Plan. All special education curricula address the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. The classes are designed to facilitate skill development while supporting transition to adult-life in the least restrictive environment. All special education program placements are determined through the IEP team process.

Child Study Team

Warren County Technical School's Special Services provides programs and services for students eligible for special education. The Child Study Team at Warren Tech comprises a part-time School Psychologist, Learning Consultant, and Speech/Language Specialist. Our responsibilities include consultation, identification, classification, and recommending interventions for students facing learning and behavioral challenges. Team members also serve as Case Managers for students receiving special education and collaborate with teachers to develop Individual Education Programs (IEPs).

Warren Tech aims to ensure that students with disabilities receive an appropriate education in the least restrictive environment, promoting their growth as functioning members of society. Whenever possible, we integrate students with disabilities alongside their non-disabled peers and provide the necessary supports.

The Child Study Team works closely with special education teachers and parents to create and implement educational programs tailored to students' needs.

The Child Study Team is also responsible for identifying, evaluating, and determining eligibility for students with disabilities and for developing and monitoring each student's IEP. For any concerns regarding your child's academic, social, or behavioral development, please contact us at 908-689-0122.

Section 504

The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, is a Federal Civil Rights statute that protects the rights of persons with disabilities. Section 504 prohibits discrimination against handicapped persons, including both students and staff members, by school districts receiving federal financial assistance. Included in the U.S. Department of Education regulations for Section 504 is the requirement that handicapped students receive a free and appropriate education (FAPE).  School districts have specific responsibilities under the Act, which include the responsibility to identify, evaluate, and if the child is determined eligible under section 504, to afford access to appropriate educational services
